The start of the new year is no doubt a time for celebration for many or a time of contemplation for some. Whilst many are set on coming up with new resolutions, others choose to make no resolutions and take new year’s day and the following days like any other day.
WHAT THE NEW YEAR MEANS FOR ME
For me, new year is simply a reminder to stop and look back. It is a time to evaluate the past year, recognise my achievements and acknowledge what I have learnt from my mistakes.
New year is a time to remind ourselves who we are and what we want in life, our hopes and dreams. Why? Because we forget. Our brains are so wired to focus on the future that we lose track of where we have been. We take for granted how far we have come and what we have achieved. We devalue our ourselves, our progress and evolution. Yet, without these important past elements of our lives, we would not be where we are now. For this reason I love to give myself sometime to sit quietly, go deep within myself and make two lists:
Five Main Achievements in 2015
Five Hopes and Dreams for 2016
I strongly believe that doing this reinforces our achievements, reminds us of our learning outcomes and helps us dream bigger. After all, we each create the life we want with every decision we make consciously or unconsciously.
MY FIVE MAIN ACHIEVEMENTS IN 2015
MY FIVE MAIN HOPES AND DREAMS FOR 2016
To complete my home renovation project and make my home look outstanding.
To introduce an online consulting service for my business Style Me Flawless
To write a book
To treat my mum to a lovely get away
VALUES TO LIVE BY IN 2016
I then decide what two words will define what my new year (2016) will be about. These are my values.
Your values will guide you throughout the new year and help you accomplish what is most important to you.
My two words (values) for 2016 are: Completion and Discipline.
