For me, dressing for cold winter days is all about figuring out how to stay warm AND look stylish at the same time. When all you want to do is wrap yourself in sweatshirts and blankets, it can be hard to put together an outfit that is both stylish and flattering. That’s where layering comes in.
Layering is all about pairing different styles, colours and textures to create warm, cozy outfits that seem effortless, yet look stylish. How do you go about doing this? To help, I have compiled a few stylish layering tricks that will help you get more wear out of your existing favourites during this season.
Make The Black Roll Neck Your New Winter Staple
A black roll neck is one of the most versatile, long wearing pieces to have in your wardrobe. It will work under almost anything! I tend to wear it under jumpers, dresses and even t-shirts. To add an unexpected, stylish edge to your outfit, wear it under a wide, printed top and pair with wide leg trousers or an a-line skirt.

Mix and Match Textures
I am constantly recommending blazers to clients who want to create a stylish smart casual look. Worn with jeans or chino’s, blazers can help dress up any outfit effortlessly. Why not take this a step further by adding a faux fur coat over a tailored jacket or blazer? The different textures will add a stylish, effortless edge to your outfit whilst keeping you warm. The lengths don’t even have to match!
Long line sleeveless or cardigans are fabulous pieces to use for layering during the colder months as they can be worn over other thicker tops and knits! Stick to lighter neutral colours such as cream, grey and beige, and use darker colours such as navy, black, burgundy or olive green as under-layers.
No outfit is really complete without appropriate accessories. The best way to accessorise over thicker layers is to use longer, bulkier necklaces to lift your outfit. Alternatively, use a multi-strand necklace or layer up various sized necklace to create a similar effect. Another effortless way to accessorise is to use brooches. Brooches, when added to lapels of blazers, jackets or coats always add sophistication to an outfit. Lastly, if your outfit is full of neutral colours, swap your black bag for a structured coloured number for an instant edge!
