This has been a very unique period of time for everybody.
Much of our lives from our work environment, our daily activities, who were are permitted to see and where we can holiday has changed drastically. It’s because of these changes that what we are currently wearing day to day has also seen a change for most of us.
However, while it seems appealing to go about your day in pyjamas and a dressing gown, going down that road is a slippery slope.
Its more important , now more than ever to be more conscious about what you are wearing, ensuring that your clothing uplifts your mood rather drag you down. Research shows what we wear affects our mood. Putting on different clothes creates different thoughts and mental processes. Clothes can change our mood and thoughts.
Yes, you want to be comfortable, but it’s important to get the balance between comfort and style, ultimately ensuring that what we wear during this difficult time lifts our spirits at the very least.
Here, I break down 10 Pieces you need reinvent your lockdown wardrobe in 2021, whilst being comfortable. I have also provided links to recommended pieces.
1. Stretch Jeans in Charcoal
I love wearing charcoal grey jeans. The reason is simple; grey jeans can ground your outfit in a timeless way like navy dark wash jeans (a great alternative) while giving you plenty of room to play around with other colours in your outfit. The secret to being more comfortable jeans is to find a stretchy pair that offers room for movement. Wear with your favourite knit sweater, jumper, sweatshirt or tee.
If you would rather wear leggings. I would recommend these faux leather thermal leggings for colder months which will feel more dressy than your usual black leggings.
2. A structured Grey Coat
Structured grey coats just never go out of style! They are perfect for elevating any outfit when you need to get out without having to make much of an effort. You want this coat to be your bread and butter for the colder smarts and a smarter alternative to your padded jackets.
3. A Sweatshirt in a Neutral Colour
For days when you just can't be bothered to spend more than 10 minutes getting ready, throw on a classic crewneck sweatshirt with stretch jeans. Look for one that you can reach for in a hurry. This means minimal patterns and neutral colours so you don’t have to put much thought into how it will work with the rest of your look.
Here is an alternative.
4. Mock Neck Jumper in a Non- Neutral Colour
A knit sweater in a mock neck design works with everything—from a pair of broken-in boyfriend jeans to a pleated, feminine skirt, you will keep reaching for it during lockdown to wear both indoors and outdoors. A polo neck design a great alternative.
5. White or Navy Tee
A white or navy tee anchors most pieces in your wardrobe, especially when you have statement pieces like coloured denim, printed trousers, skirt or shorts for warmer months. It will also layer perfectly under sweaters. Put it to work!
6. Fancy House Slippers
You may already know the benefits of wearing house shoes but have trouble deciding what kind of pair to look for. My advice is to find a design that will give you just enough traction to do some of the heavy housework but is not heavy enough that it weighs on you at the end of the day. You want something that you can also wear all throughout spring, autumn and winter to get maximum use, because, well, who knows when this lockdown will come to an end once and for all.
7. Nude or White Trainers
A pair of white or nude trainers will never go out of style because they will go with everything. Perfect for nipping out of the house for food shopping! If you are not keen on white or nude, grey or navy trainers are also good alternatives.
8. Practical Black Ankle Boots
The ankle boot is the perfect shoe for any season that’s way easier to slip into than their taller sister. Experiment with heel heights from low and blocky to taller and stiletto-esque to land a totally different vibe with your ankle boot. They will come in handy when you need to get out in cooler months or rainy weather!
9. A Printed Dress For Date Night
The first step to finding your perfect date night dress or any other clothing for that matter is knowing your body shape and colouring, then pick your silhouette. If in doubt, opt for a wrap dress which is the most universally flattering dress of all and looks good on everyone. Pair with strappy sandals for a dressy vibe or trainers to dress it down.
10. Classic Metallic Jewellery
Simple metallic jewellery such as a simple pendant necklace, stud earings or classic slim bracelet can upgrade even the most casual outfits. Metallics work well with just about with every outfit, whether it’s jeans and a t-shirt or a skirt and heels for a night out. Select something that you can see yourself wanting to wear every day, with a metal and stones that fit your style.
As always, I hope you find these useful.
